VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION: ALTAR DESIGNER______________________________
POSITION:
Setup and Decorate Altar for Sunday Service
PURPOSE:
To have timely, appropriately staged décor on Altar prior to Sunday
SCHEDULE:
One Sunday per month. Four volunteers are needed, each one being assigned to a specific Sunday. In addition, one extra volunteer is needed to serve the 5th Sunday which occurs 4-5 times a year depending on the current year. This person would also serve as a substitute for the other volunteers as needed.
REPORTS TO:
Lead Altar Person and/or Ministerial Assistant.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Decide on Altar décor which can include: *table covering(s), *vase, *flowers and greenery, *candle holders, *candles (making sure fresh votive is in place if not using battery flame candles), any other suitable décor such as flags, banners, word display such as “DREAM”, “FAITH.”
- NOTE: The decorator may use real flowers, or artificial from upstairs Altar storage area, or a mix of both. It’s helpful to keep in mind any holidays or special events that are occurring, consulting with the Altar Lead if needed.
- Complete Altar setup using the items above. This is best done prior to Sunday, such as on a Friday, or Saturday. Plan to dismantle your Altar décor by the end of Thursday of the following week.
- When doing the Altar décor take down, please do the following: return artificial flowers/greenery upstairs in designated containers, fold cloths neatly on hangers and return them upstairs and hang with corresponding color cloths, return candle holders and candles to sanctuary closet, and discard used votives. If used fresh flowers, either arrange into smaller bouquet for front entry counter or discard if wilted. Wash and dry vase and return upstairs.
Special Skills or Experience required:
Enjoys decorating, arranging flowers and demonstrates interest and skill in these areas.
COMMENTS:
New volunteers will pair with seasoned volunteer until he/she feels comfortable and ready to work on one's own.
